Zelensky Holds Positive Talks with Trump Envoys Amid Ongoing Ukraine Conflict
Ukrainian President praises active diplomatic efforts by U.S. representatives to advance peace talks and end the war with Russia

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reported a "very positive" conversation on June 8 with special envoys of former U.S. President Donald Trump, Steve Whitkoff and Jared Kushner. Zelensky expressed gratitude for their willingness to work "actively in the coming weeks" to help bring an end to the war with Russia.
"Very positive conversation. Grateful for their readiness to work as actively as possible already in these weeks to give a diplomatic push towards ending Russia's war against Ukraine," Zelensky wrote on social media platform X.
During the discussion, Zelensky informed Whitkoff and Kushner about intelligence Kyiv has regarding Moscow's intentions. He also appreciated their respect for Ukraine and positive assessment of the country's positions, adding, "Thank you, America!"
Diplomatic Efforts amidst High-Level European Talks
The phone call occurred during Zelensky's stopover at Chișinău airport as he returned to Kyiv after talks in London with key European leaders, including Germany's Chancellor Friedrich Merz, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, and French President Emmanuel Macron.
In their meeting, the four European leaders outlined five conditions for a lasting peace in Ukraine, discussed strengthening economic pressure on Russia, increasing military aid to Ukraine, and cooperating on missile production necessary for air defense and long-range strikes.
"The readiness of U.S. envoys to actively engage diplomatically is an important signal amid ongoing conflict," said Zelensky.
On June 4, Zelensky published an open letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin proposing to end the war and set a clear date for a personal meeting. He also suggested that Europe and the U.S. could join such a bilateral path.
Putin responded the next day, expressing no interest in a meeting at this time. He criticized Zelensky's letter as containing "elements of rudeness" and creating obstacles for a potential meeting. Putin reaffirmed that military operations would continue until Russia achieved its objectives and called on Russian troops to "work, brothers."
These developments reflect the complex and evolving diplomatic landscape as Ukraine and its international partners seek avenues to end a conflict that continues to disrupt markets and global stability.
