Multiple Drone Alerts in Kyiv Overnight Amid Russian UAV Attacks and Ballistic Threats
Ukraine’s air defenses counter dozens of Russian drones as Kyiv and surrounding regions face repeated aerial assaults.

Overnight on June 7, Kyiv experienced at least two air raid alerts triggered by threats of Russian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Ukrainian Air Force sources reported multiple drone incursions from the Chernihiv region moving toward Brovary in the Kyiv region, and additional UAVs approaching Kyiv from the east.
Escalating Drone Attacks and Air Defense Responses
The Ukrainian Armed Forces’ air defense systems engaged extensively to neutralize a wave of Russian UAV attacks. Ukrainian online aviation tracking data revealed that, as of 5:00 a.m. local time, air raid alerts were active not only in Kyiv but also in the Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, and Zaporizhzhia regions. The Ukrainian military reported Russian tactical aviation deploying guided aerial bombs in the Donetsk area alongside the drone attacks.
"Unfortunately, the importance of attacks on logistics is understood not only by us," noted defense advisor Sergey Beskrestnov, highlighting Russian strikes targeting transport routes between Kharkiv and Sumy.
According to Sergey Beskrestnov, an advisor to the Ukrainian defense minister and a radio technology expert, Russia has intensified strikes against transport infrastructure since early June, focusing on the Bogodukhiv area approximately 20 kilometers from the border. These attacks disrupt critical logistics lines supporting Ukrainian forces.
Amid these military developments, major European leaders are scheduled to meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in London on the evening of June 7. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, French President Emmanuel Macron, and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer aim to boost diplomatic efforts toward ending Russia’s war against Ukraine, including discussing prospects for renewed negotiations with Moscow.
On the night of June 6, Russian forces launched 272 strike UAVs, including Shahed, Gerbera, and Italmas drones, loitering munitions called Banderol, and decoy drones known as Parodiya. Ukraine’s air defense units successfully intercepted and destroyed 249 drones across northern, southern, and eastern regions by 8:00 a.m. However, 19 attack drones hit 11 locations, with debris falling in 13 areas, underscoring the ongoing threat to civilian and military infrastructure.
The sustained drone attacks and ballistic threats pose serious challenges for Kyiv’s air defense networks and highlight the shifting dynamics of aerial warfare in the conflict.
