White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt to Step Down Amid Family Priorities

Caroline Leavitt, the White House Press Secretary, has announced her decision to resign from her position to dedicate more time to her family, particularly her two young children. The announcement was made on August 12 via her social media platform X.

Leavitt recently returned from a short leave following the birth of her second child, Viviana, in May. She also has a two-year-old son. In her statement, Leavitt expressed the challenges of balancing the demanding role of Press Secretary with her responsibilities as a mother.

"Upon returning to the White House after the birth of my daughter, I deeply felt I could not be the best mother my two young children deserve if I continue to devote the time, energy, and attention required by the Press Secretary role," she wrote.

She extended gratitude to President Donald Trump for the special trust granted to her in representing his administration.

Leadership and Future Role

President Trump confirmed Leavitt's resignation on his social media platform TruthSocial, indicating her departure would take effect at the end of August. He praised her years of service as a "true leader in the White House" and revealed plans for her to become a prominent external advisor and influential figure within the Republican Party. However, the President did not announce who would succeed Leavitt as Press Secretary.

At 28 years old, Caroline Leavitt holds the distinction of being the youngest Press Secretary in White House history. She initially joined the White House communications team as an assistant Press Secretary in June 2020 during President Trump's first term.

In addition to her White House role, Leavitt served as the Press Secretary for Trump's 2024 re-election campaign. She is recognized as a vocal supporter of the ultra-conservative MAGA (Make America Great Again) movement.
