In the early hours of May 2, Russian military forces conducted a series of coordinated attacks on several Ukrainian regions, utilizing Shahed drones targeting critical infrastructure and residential areas. Ukrainian officials report multiple strikes on cities including Mykolaiv, Kharkiv, Kherson, Sumy, and Izmail, with continued air defense engagements throughout the day.

Drone Strikes and Civilian Impact Across Multiple Fronts

The local military administration head in Mykolaiv, Vitaliy Kim, confirmed drone attacks on the city's energy infrastructure, although no casualties have been reported so far. Simultaneously, in Kharkiv's Shevchenkivskyi district, a Shahed drone struck the 12th floor of a residential building, causing shrapnel injuries to a civilian. According to Mayor Ihor Terekhov, the drone did not detonate, preventing more severe damage.

"Fortunately, the Shahed drone did not explode—this prevented significantly worse consequences," said Kharkiv's mayor.

In Sumy, multiple explosions were reported, while Kherson has experienced its third round of explosions within 24 hours, signaling persistent offensive pressure. The Ukrainian Air Force noted ongoing drone movements towards Chernihiv, Zaporizhzhia, Odessa, and the Odessa region, highlighting a broad operational scope of these attacks.

Specifically, the port infrastructure in Izmail came under attack. Local defense forces intercepted the majority of inbound drones, minimizing damage. The regional administration reported that air defense units operated effectively, with most enemy drones being shot down and only negligible damage sustained.

Western Ukraine's city of Ternopil faced a significant barrage, with over 50 Shahed drones targeting the area. More than 20 detonated upon impact, resulting in at least 12 injuries, according to Ternopil's police chief, Serhii Ziubanenko.

In the Dnipropetrovsk region, nearly 50 strikes impacted Nikopol and Kryvyi Rih districts within a single day. Regional military administration head Oleksandr Hanzha reported four injured civilians. Two women, aged 43 and 50, were hospitalized in moderate condition, while a 50-year-old man and a 54-year-old woman received outpatient treatment.

These drone campaigns reflect a strategic emphasis on disrupting Ukraine's energy and transport infrastructure while attempting to inflict psychological and material damage on civilian populations. The persistent nature of these attacks, coupled with effective Ukrainian air defenses, underscores the evolving dynamics of the conflict's aerial component.
