Russia Continues Strikes on Ukraine with Multiple Casualties Across Several Regions

On July 2, Russia sustained its campaign of military strikes across multiple Ukrainian regions throughout the day and evening, following a deadly night attack on Kyiv that marked the highest casualty count since the war began.

Local authorities reported that the afternoon and evening assaults targeted the Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, and Dnipropetrovsk regions. These strikes caused civilian deaths and injuries amid mounting destruction of infrastructure and residential areas.

Regional Impact and Casualty Details

In Kherson, a strike hit a civilian vehicle killing a 41-year-old man, as confirmed by Alexander Prokudin, head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration. An additional fatality occurred when a 63-year-old doctor died due to a hit on a medical facility, while a nurse sustained injuries. Later that evening, another local resident was killed after triggering unexploded ordnance while mowing grass.

Prokudin also detailed ongoing drone raids well into the night, including one targeting the Kherson oil refinery, indicating a sustained assault campaign.

Zaporizhzhia experienced attacks on residential housing, a retail warehouse, the "Nova Poshta" sorting center, and a sports facility. Seven people were wounded, including children aged six, seven, twelve, and sixteen, according to Ivan Fedorov, head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Administration.

In Dnipropetrovsk region, approximately 40 strikes from drones, artillery, aerial bombs, and missiles caused significant damage across residential buildings, a gymnasium, and vehicles. Two fatalities were confirmed, including a seven-year-old girl, with nine others injured, including children aged 11 and 14. Alexander Ganja, head of the regional administration, provided these updates.

In Mykolaiv region, a drone attack near a gas station resulted in one death and seven injuries, with property damage including the destruction of a gas station building and damage to private homes and vehicles, as reported by Vitaliy Kim, regional administration head.

Kharkiv was also targeted, with a strike impacting a multi-story residential building and damaging a gas station and vehicles. Three people were reported injured by Igor Terekhov, the city’s mayor.

Sumy endured attacks by three guided aerial bombs causing 11 injuries, including three children. Significant damage was inflicted on a local school situated in a residential area. The school was empty of children during the strike but two staff members were injured. Additional injuries occurred when a drone struck a postal vehicle, affecting the driver and a postman. Oleg Grigorov, the head of Sumy Regional Administration, conveyed these details.

Elsewhere, in Kramatorsk, Donetsk region, a drone strike on a vehicle caused injury to one person, according to the Ukrainian State Emergency Service.

"The widespread and persistent strikes across key civilian and infrastructure targets reveal a strategic intent to destabilize multiple regions simultaneously," noted analysts monitoring the evolving conflict dynamic.
