Drone Attacks Ignite Fire at Poltava Oil Depot Near Krasnodar Amid Strikes on Crimea

Local authorities in Russia's Krasnodar region have reported a major fire at the Poltava oil depot caused by debris from a downed unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) during the early hours of June 25. The incident occurred in the Krasnoarmeysky district, impacting a critical regional fuel supply hub.
According to Alexander Kharitonov, head of the district, the fire broke out after fragments from a shot-down drone fell onto the oil depot. The blaze reportedly affected three storage tanks at the site. Authorities temporarily closed the roadway connecting the nearby settlements of Poltavskaya and Trudobelikovsky to contain the situation.
Regional Energy Infrastructure Under Simultaneous Drone Assaults
The Poltava oil depot is a vital component of the fuel infrastructure, servicing parts of Krasnodar Territory and the Republic of Adygea. The facility's reservoir park includes approximately 28 tanks, underscoring its strategic importance.
Meanwhile, multiple Telegram sources report concurrent drone attacks targeting the annexed Crimean Peninsula. Reports indicate strikes on the Balaklava and Tavricheskaya thermal power stations, with a significant explosion near the Kacha airfield. These assaults caused brief power outages in several Crimean cities including Simferopol, Yalta, and areas near Yevpatoria.
Witnesses have also reported a series of explosions in Simferopol, where energy infrastructure was severely affected, resulting in electrical blackouts. Similar drone attacks reportedly targeted the city of Sevastopol, further straining regional security.
“Poltava oil depot fire was triggered by debris from a downed drone, highlighting ongoing drone warfare impacts on critical infrastructure,” noted district head Alexander Kharitonov.
On June 24, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky declared the operation involving Crimea as "well-prepared," emphasizing that with support from G7 nations, Ukraine could pressure Russia toward peace. Zelensky refrained from specifying the precise nature of the assistance under discussion.
He further noted that Russia is reallocating air defense resources towards Moscow and near the Crimean Bridge, potentially weakening protection for other regions.
These developments reflect a dynamic escalation in drone warfare, impacting key energy and fuel distribution assets amid ongoing regional tensions.
