In the early hours of July 8, Russian forces launched a coordinated night assault involving ballistic missiles and drones against several Ukrainian regions, notably Kyiv and Kharkiv. Local authorities reported explosions, fires, and casualties in both cities as air raid sirens sounded across the affected areas.

Combined Missile and Drone Attacks Disrupt Ukrainian Cities

The Mayor of Kyiv, Vitali Klitschko, confirmed that two people were injured during the attacks, with one requiring hospitalization. He reported that the Desnianskyi district in the northeast of Kyiv experienced a warehouse fire after a missile strike, while the Sviatoshynskyi district in the west saw a blaze in a non-residential building. Additionally, over 20 private homes were damaged, alongside shattered windows of a church, street lighting outages, and damage to five vehicles.

Timur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, warned that enemy attack drones were still detected near the approaches to Kyiv, signaling a continuing threat. The Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine also confirmed multiple ballistic missile launches targeting the capital from the north, contributing to ongoing air defense operations.

"Currently, two injured individuals are in Kyiv, one of whom has been hospitalized," stated Vitali Klitschko soon after the attacks.

In Kharkiv, Mayor Ihor Terekhov confirmed missile impacts in the Nemishlyanskyi district on the city’s east side, causing significant damage. He reported that more than 20 private residences were affected, and damages extended to windows and vehicles. Two people were reportedly injured in Kharkiv as well.

The Armed Forces of Ukraine indicated that the nighttime offensive is ongoing, with Russian forces targeting multiple central and eastern regions of the country, including Kyiv and Kharkiv. The attacks reflect an escalation in hostile activities aimed at destabilizing key urban centers.

Authorities in both cities remain on high alert, responding rapidly to the unfolding situation as air defense and emergency services continue to operate in response to the strikes.
