In the early hours of June 28, Kyiv was targeted by a ballistic missile attack launched by Russian forces. The assault resulted in two injuries and several fires in the city's Darnytskyi district, prompting multiple air raid alerts throughout the night.

The Ukrainian Air Force issued warnings twice before the strikes, around 2:00 AM and 2:30 AM local time, alerting residents of incoming ballistic threats. Shortly after, explosions were reported in Kyiv, leading to an immediate declaration of air raid alarms.

Impact in Kyiv and Nationwide Air Defense Activity

Timur Tkachenko, head of Kyiv's military administration, confirmed that one person was injured in the Darnytskyi district where fires broke out at multiple locations, including near a residential building, an auto service station, and an unoccupied structure. The number of injured later increased to two as assessments continued.

"A fire near a residential building and another at a service station, along with a blaze in a non-residential building, are under investigation," Tkachenko reported.

The air raid alert in Kyiv was lifted around 3:11 AM, but was reissued briefly at 5:10 AM before being canceled six minutes later. The Ukrainian Air Force also announced the cessation of the threat from ballistic weapons shortly after the initial alert was lifted.

Beyond Kyiv, the Ukrainian Air Force documented numerous launches of drones, missiles, and guided aerial bombs targeting regions including Kharkiv, Dnipro, Sumy, Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk, and Dnipropetrovsk. Air raid warnings were declared in many of these areas, though the extent of damage or casualties remains unconfirmed.

This series of coordinated strikes marks a significant escalation in Russian attacks, targeting multiple urban centers and critical infrastructure across Ukraine during the overnight hours.
